- An attractive, fast growing tree that produces heavy crops of large, oval cobnuts in late September and October
- Scented foliage and bright yellow catkins in summer
- A perfect tree for wildlife friendly gardens, attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinators to your garden
- Fully hardy and drought tolerant once established
- Grow in full sun on a south or west facing wall
- Grows to 4 x 4m but can be pruned to fit any size of garden
- Cobnuts can be eaten straight from the tree or used in baking and desserts
- Cobnuts, filberts, and other kinds of hazelnuts are all in the hazel genus Corylus. The cobnut is a cultivated variety of hazelnut introduced in the 19th century in Kent and is often known as a Kentish cobnut. Underneath the green husk, which is easy to remove, is a brown shell that when young is easy to crack and take off as well. Once the nut begins to dry, the shell toughens, needing a sharp tap to break. Cobnuts are delicious to eat fresh from the shell when young; once a little older, it is best to use them as you would hazelnuts
- Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming “leggy”, and promote stronger, bushier growth.MORE
